How you help Our volunteers enjoy each other’s company, learn about Berkshire County, and have a good time while doing the work that supports this organization. Volunteers may contribute as few or as many hours as are convenient for their schedules. We rely on volunteers for all phases of our operation from the Board of Directors, to docents, museum shop staff, archivists, collections, committee members, and more.
About us Since its founding in 1962, the Berkshire County Historical Society has preserved and shared the memories of our communities. Photographs, manuscripts, artifacts, and oral histories all illustrate the amazing histories of this region. The Berkshire County Historical Society is a non-profit corporation dedicated to collecting, preserving, and disseminating the history of Berkshire County in western Massachusetts. In addition, the Berkshire County Historical Society is committed to the preservation and interpretation of Arrowhead, home of author Herman Melville, designated a National Historic Landmark.
